A Rusty Old TV & Upcycle Ideas

It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. The crowd had died down at the shop and I was sittin’ chattin’ with Dad who had come to help for the day. There were a few people wondering around the shop, when a couple from Charlotte came in and just looooved our truck counter. So, we started talking and they broke out their phone to share some pictures of their truck. And boy was she a beauty!! Cherry red antique truck… I don’t recall the make, but she was a doll!

They went on to tell me about all of the upcycled goodies that they have made… a bathtub filled with flowers in the garden house, a flower ‘bed’ in the yard, a refrigerator cupboard, and a modern version of an antique television.

I was intrigued. Tell me more! I had seen the clawfoot bathtubs filled with flowers before. And the old bed filled with flowers was something I had seen before too! But this refrigerator and TV thing had me curious. She went on to tell me that she found an old antique television, gutted it, and mounted a new flat screen TV inside! Say what?!?! Where have you been all my life?? Why had I never thought of that??

So, I was on a mission to find an old TV. I mean, not really. ‘Cuz you know how that goes. If you’re looking for it, you will never find it. So, I kinda forgot about it. As for the refrigerator upcycle, I couldn’t believe it! This one, she had pictures of! She had taken an old vintage refrigerator, gutted that too, and built wooden shelves inside! It’s painted the same cherry red as her truck and she houses her blender, toaster, and other kitchen appliances inside of it in the kitchen!! I know right!! GENIUS!!

So, fast forward four days. Yes, FOUR days. And the hubs and I were out junkin’… when what did I spot?!!! This old TV!!! It’s perfect! Rusty in all the right places. Even has most of her knobs. I’m not really sure what all the ‘scraggles’ are around the edges. But I kinda like ’em! And if I get tired of them, I’m sure I can clean it up!

I snagged this TV for a whopping $12!! I’m thinking I can find a small flat screen tv for $50 or so… and for less than $65, we will have the coolest TV on the block, no doubt!! Won’t it be cute in the bedroom? It’s just the right size!! I’ll keep you posted as we tackle this baby and bring her back to life!

Now, about that antique refrigerator?? Any leads?? Ha ha!!!

(P.S. We snagged this primitive chest too! Its quite large and square! Very unique!! Once we add some hardware, she’ll be my new nightstand!! I can stash all kinds of Flea Market Style magazines in those drawers!!)

Until next time, let us remember..

  1. The scraggles are from the fabric that covered the front of the television. I cant wait to see what you do with this!!

Oh!! That totally makes sense, Kim!! I didn’t even think about fabric covering it. I’ll have to do some research to see if I can find one like it so I know what I’m working with!! Thanks for sharing!!
