We just have to get started…

Chasing Dreams & An Old Produce Sign #RustedRoots

We passed by this ‘ol produce shop over a year ago. Abandoned. Windows busted in. Looked like it hadn’t seen the light of day in ages. But that sign. That ‘Country Boys Produce and Mini Mart’ sign. It stole my heart the first time I laid eyes on it. But what are the odds, I could figure out who owned this beautiful building (yes, I see the beauty in it!) and if they would even consider letting the sign go.

Inspiring Story About Chasing Dreams #RustedRoots
In a small town, I’m sure that ‘ol sign was a marker for stories swapped, memories made, a quick run to pick up veggies for dinner after a hard days work. But it was apparent that those days were long lost and this ‘lil produce spot would never be what it once was in its heyday.

Fast forward a few months and I was telling a dear friend how I loved the old produce sign that was just down the road from where she lived. She told stories of days when she shopped the ‘ol produce shop, but said she wasn’t sure how to get in touch with the owners. I knew that would probably be the case so I wasn’t surprised.

The surprise came a little over a year after I first spotted the sign when that friend told me that she was at the grocery store and thought she recognized a young man, that looked like the owners son. She asked if it was him… and it was!! They talked. She told him she knew someone that would buy the sign. He was elated to pass it along to someone who would appreciate it!!!

Rescuing an Old Produce Sign #RustedRoots

Handpainted. The perfect green. Finally, we went and rescued the ‘ol Country Boys sign from the ‘ol produce shop! This one is a keeper for sure and will be perfect above our cabinets in the kitchen!! It reminds me that even the things that we feel are impossible AREN’T!! We just have to believe and put ourselves out there!!

People who love you and support you want you to succeed!! So, share your story!! We can try to make dreams come true on our own, but it sure makes it more fun with cheerleaders on the sideline!! I know I wouldn’t have scored this touchdown without ’em!!! Thank you, Patricia!

  1. So great! How many times, I can’t COUNT! that I pass up things like that, and sometimes though I DO ASK! It is surprising what you can find out with just a little inquiring!! Glad you rescued it and it didn’t get bulldozed over!!

    • Candace says:

  2. That’s so awesome! Goes to show it never hurts to put out into the world what you want! πŸ™‚

PS – I designed this really fun “rust or bust” tank that I think you/your followers would love… if you’d check out my site, the most recent post has a link to purchase. Tried to come up with a creative way to help pay for repairs to my junkin’ van. πŸ™‚

    • Candace says:

Cute tank, Melissa!! I love that you took matters into your own hands to get that van fixed up!! I’m sure they will do great as we all get ready to hit the junkin’ trails as the warm weather starts to roll in!!! Good luck with the tanks and your van!! I’m glad you stopped by the ‘ol blog to say ‘hey’! πŸ™‚

I’m one of YOUR cheerleaders. I’m so happy you have accomplished so much. Doing what you love AND getting paid to do it doesn’t happen for everyone! As always, best wishes.

    • Candace says:

Oh, thank you so much, Fonda!!! I always love seeing your name pop up!! Your positivity is such a blessing!! And you are so right! We feel so fortunate to be able to do what we love!! Looking forward to the day that the hubs can quit his ‘other’ job and work the Roots full time!! Just putting it out there!! Ha ha!! Cause that’s what we’re supposed to do!!! Dream out loud!!! πŸ™‚

  5. Sweet! I love it when things like this come together!

  6. You are so a woman after my heart. I’m waiting for a man to vacate a house in my area so I can check the cabinets and other “stuff” before the house is destroyed for new townhouses. It’s over 100 years old and has been a rental right up until today. There is woodwork over the front door we are going to rescue (if it’s not rotten). Gotta check the upstairs windows too. This is such fun!

    • Sounds like an exciting day is ahead for you, Garnet!! Don’t forget all those cabinet doors, door knobs, even the light sockets!! They make super cute succulent planters!! You’ll have to share some of your finds with us over on our Facebook page!! We love to see a good haul!!! Happy hunting!!! Keep in touch!! πŸ™‚
