Four days before the BIG Grand Opening of the Rusted Roots barn shop and it’s official… the sign is on the barn!! Woot woot! And believe me when I say it was no small feat. Just wait for the punchline at the end of the story…
So first things first, Bill is NOT a fan of heights. Perhaps it’s because he is already 6’4″ above the ground! Ha ha! Lucky for us, Bill’s family was in town a couple weeks ago visiting. With the extra hands on deck, we knew this would be a great time to tackle the job at hand. Father. Son. And nephew.
Bill prepped the letters by mounting metal brackets on the back, so they could just screw the bracket right in once they were on the roof. P.S. There are no shingles on that roof. No traction, if you will. Just slippery old sheet metal. Add pollen and it makes for a tricky task!! So drilling the holes and mounting the brackets on the ground was the way to go!!
Once the letters were ready to hang. The fellas lined them up on the ground to measure spacing and marked the letters on a piece of wood, that would later be attached to the building so that each letter would be straight and evenly spaced. Smart guys, I tell ya!
For the most part it was a team effort.
I mean, except for the part where…
oh yeah… the father-son duo supervised from the ground. Ha ha!
Well, see for yourself! We did a little video!!
I’ve never seen someone so happy to climb down a ladder!! Oh yeah, and it was his 21st birthday!! Thanks Rob for all the hard work!!
So, the punchline I mentioned. Hmmm… how can I say??? Ummm.. I got to looking at it over the next few days and thought, I think it’s a few inches too high. I know. I know. I’m horrible. I am. So Bill called up Rob and he graciously came back and helped Bill move them down a bit. Now, it’s perfect!!!
The art of hanging an old rusty sign. Father. Son. And nephew. Twice.
