If you’ve followed this blog for any amount of time, you know that WE LOVE OLD TRUCKS!! And we’ve been shopping for one for oh-so -long. We’ve shared tips on how to find an old truck, harvesting old truck parts, and even when we bought our current truck! But none of that compares to wanting a good ol’ rusty truck. I mean just look at ’em.
It’s a lot like Goldilocks and the three bears. This one’s too expensive.
This ones too far away.
This one doesn’t have enough character.
We actually could have bought any of those trucks. But they just weren’t right. And then… then you find the perfect truck, but it’s just not the right time.
We found this old truck September 23, 2015!! Yes 2015!! And we even shared her with y’all on Facebook here and here. Remember? But again, not the right time. We knew we were getting ready to move and in our last house, we had no where to park her. So we passed. We moved on in hopes of finding another one when the time was right.
In the mean time, we settled for a few ‘half trucks’ we’ll call ’em! Ha ha! Of course, we had out beloved old truck counter. Had her since 2014… remember when we first saw the old truck counter?!! She’s a ’49 Chevy. Pretty close to the ’51 Chevy we passed up.
We love dressing her up for the holidays. Oh how we dreamed of having a ‘whole’ truck to decorate one day.
Then we found this doll…
Oh, don’t be fooled. It was only a ‘half truck’ too! Remember we found her on the 127 yard sale and HAD to have her. So we drove alllllll the way back to Kentucky to pick her up. That’s why we named her Derby!
Derby later became the admission booth to our Junk Markets that we hosted in Hillsborough.
But even with all of that, I couldn’t get my mind off of that ’51 Chevy that we passed up. So when we bought the farm and had space to spread out, I knew exactly who I was going to call.
“Um, hi! This is Candace from Rusted Roots. Remember me from oh-about-a-year-and-a-half-ago?? I was the one who LOVED the old truck you were trying to sell. Do you by any chance still have it??”
And I couldn’t believe my ears. She still had it. It was meant to be. That old truck was destined for Rusted Roots.
I won’t bore you with the process of actually buying the old truck. Titles. Missing VIN numbers. (yes, I realize that’s redundant. Ha ha!), Indemnity bonds… what the hay is an in-dem-ni-ty bond?? But, here we are about a month after that phone call and our sweet baby girl is coming home….
We are over the moon to have finally found a truck that is perfect for us. It has the charm we were looking for. It was within our budget. And it was about a half hour from the farm. Perfect! Proof that if it is meant to be, it will happen. Hang in there. Good things come to those who wait.
