Well, here it is… in just under 24 hours we will be cutting the ribbon and opening the doors to the Rusted Roots shop! I really can not believe it!! The last eight weeks have been crazy!! I have never worked harder in my entire life! But I have also never felt quite so fulfilled. I couldn’t be prouder and I mean that in the most humblest sense. There is no way that I would have been able to pull this off without the help of so many amazing people and I can’t think of a better time to publicly thank those who have brought me to this night!!
So as I share with you a brief tour of the shop… let me say THANK YOU to some very special people.
First, and foremost, I have to thank God. Without him, none of this would be possible. ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 29:11)
I want to thank Donna Freeland, owner of the Daniel Boone Village, who has helped me in so many ways and allowed me to tranform this old building into the shop you see today. And I thank Pam and Sam who do a lot of hard work to keep the village running smoothly as well!
I also want to thank a few special friends. Susan and Sammy Smith. Stephanie Rule. Danielle Pearce. Liz Dujka. You know what you each have done and I am forever grateful! From bringing me truck loads of junk, to painting, to tearing apart pallets, to scrubbing windows, to surprises in the mail. Ya’ll are amazing. Thank you!
To Mark and Lola of Eminil Designs, the Rusted Roots shop wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing checkout counter! I would have never imagined a 1949 Chevy truck would find a home in our shop! It’s perfect!
To my family… my aunt and uncle, Dixie and Wesley Pinckney, my brother, Andrew, my step-brother Wesley. Thank you all for your help in making this shop a reality! To my Dad, who has always been an amazing wood worker, thank you for teaching me your tricks of the trade. And for helping me cover the walls in the shop with barn wood and rusty tin. It was so much fun bonding over something we both enjoy so much!
To my Mom and Step-Dad, who have clocked more hours at the shop than anyone else. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough. I can’t even begin to name all of the things you have helped with. But you know them all! Late night chats months ago as I mapped out a plan for this dream of mine. Down to the very last minute, sweeping floors and tying price tags. Mom, you know, I am lost without you! You are my BEST FRIEND. I will forever be grateful for your support. For putting your lives on hold to help us create the shop I have always dreamed of!
And last but certainly not least, Bill. My rock. My support. The shoulder I leaned on when I thought we couldn’t pull this off. The encouragement I needed when I wanted to give up. The person who rejoiced beside me as we celebrated all of the little successes along the way. My partner in life and now in business. He has been working two full time jobs for the last eight weeks. When he’s not at work. He’s at the shop. Waking up to an alarm he didn’t want to hear. Eating fast food a few too many times. Always going above and beyond to help me make this dream come true… and never complaining. I love you and I thank you. Words simply can’t express the gratitude that I have for you! My little Daniel Boone…
And I am thankful for all of you!! Because what fun is a shop without shoppers?!! So, to all my fellow junkers, bloggers, pickers, and flea marketers… welcome to Rusted Roots!!
