Stick a plant in it! That’s my motto for upcycled ideas lately! And my collection of old door knobs was no different. I have been collecting door knobs for quite some time. I thought I would make coat racks with them, but I just wasn’t excited about that project, so I knew it wasn’t the right one!
After much brainstorming and coming to the realization that I could easily remove the shaft between the knobs fairly easily, seriously, how CUTE are these???
There’s no in depth tutorial for this one… just find some flowers or plants you like and stick ’em in the door knob. I had my glue gun all heated up, planning to hot glue the plants in place, but once I stuck them in, it was pretty snug, so there was no need to glue! And that’s nice in case someone wants to actually use the door knob at some point later! Any time I can upcycle and not ruin the original piece, I’m all about that!
The succulent pieces are off of a larger faux succulent that I had. I just snipped them down to smaller pieces. But you could use faux flowers, if you like! Some of the darker door knobs would be great with a bright yellow flower! And if you are into shabby chic, cottage style, perhaps one of the white door knobs with some white puffy flowers would be pretty! The possibilities are endless.
All of these door knob succulents will be for sale at Rusted Roots Summer Junk Market, June 13-14!! We are located at 135 Daniel Boone Street in Hillsborough, NC! And the market is from 10am-5pm each day! You can click here to see all of the JUNK-tastic vendors that will be joining us! And we will announce the live music lineup and the food trucks later this week!!
So, who’s on the hunt for old door knobs now?? I would love to see your creations. So, if you were inspired and create some of you own, share them with us over on Facebook!! I would love to see some done with flowers!! And if you are ever in doubt about an upcycle idea, stick a plant in it!!
